“OMIT.“ – John Alexander on what he is most passionate about.
Name: John Alexander
Position: Sr. Software Engineer
Time at Zeeto: 1+ years
What is the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery?
A 1986 Chevy C-10 longbed with the 4 Speed V8. Blue leather interior with a light blue and white two tone paint job just like the one my grandpa used to drive. That thing was a beast. After that, probably a case of PBR so I can sit on the tail gate with my friends and celebrate.
You are happiest when?
The answer is simple. El Vergel, the waterpark in Tijuana. That place is my own personal Disney Land. Water slides, sun, great food, and a rickety school bus that takes you there. It’s exactly like Disneyland if Disneyland were a water park in Tijuana.
Do you have a hobby that you’re passionate about? What is it?
Camping and backpacking. I’ve been going car camping ever since I was a kid, but the more backpacking I do the more I want to go. I really want to hike the Adirondacks next fall, and in a few years I want to walk across the country East to West. I can’t see a better way to spend 6 months of my life than taking a long mosey from New York to California on foot.
What can’t you live without on your desk?
Teck Deck finger skateboards. We have had them for the last few weeks. Tryin’ to get sponsored. Every work day is a practice day.
What has been the most important innovation you have witnessed in your lifetime?
AOL Instant messenger. That thing was beyond game changing. It was the perfect product for its time. It was way before everyone had cell phones or even texting. I remember everyone in my middle school who couldn’t wait to get home to jump on.
When I am not at work you can find me….
At home. I’m a bit of a home body. On the weekends I take my pup to the dog park. Every couple of Thursday’s, my buddies and I get together to play Dungeons and Dragons. I’m not very good at it, but I’m picking it up. Who else is going to slay Orc’s during the week?
What’s the best part of your day?
At work, I would say working with some of the raddest people in the business. At home, I would say kicking it in my back yard nudging logs in my bonfire.
What is one thing you cannot live without?
Bonfires. I spent my entire childhood growing up around one. They bring out the best stories. Ones we have all heard before but never mind hearing again. I spent 5 years with no access to a bonfire and it was pretty tough. Never again!
Where is your favorite place to be?
Anywhere that’s a forest. The midwest has these giant bushy green trees everywhere. Oaks, Maples, and Willows. I never realized I would miss them so much. Anytime I go camping I end up sitting in a camp chair and staring out at the trees for hours.
What is the most important thing you have learned during your time at Zeeto?
Work culture is an actual thing. The people and dogs that I work with are like family to me. We hang out late after work, we hang out on the weekends, and some of my co workers even watch my dog when I’m out of town. It’s fantastic.
